You will experience the best of Uganda in many perspectives, including the cultural perspective. The tour leads you to Uganda’s wildlands that are composed of rain forests and extensive grasslands, all of which are home to over 18,783 species of fauna and flora. Within the rain forests, you will encounter a plethora of forest birds and witness various tunes and melodies that remind you that Uganda is the pearl of Africa. As you continue your journey, the further gets closer and the dreams become true. The variety of wildlife and nature within the savannahs and plains become a scene to linger upon.
You will get a chance to witness over 1090 bird species which are over 50% of Africa’s bird richness and 11% of the world’s bird population. Of the country’s bird species, 15 are endangered and 11 are vulnerable whereas several species are classified as threatened at the global and regional levels. As you traverse the different ecosystems and zones that decorate the country’s biodiversity, you will also visit a few cultural places to acquire an understanding of how the changes in ecological composition and form influenced the life of the traditional African man overtime. These cultural places give a vivid explanation of certain beliefs, and why they were adopted.
During your birding and wildlife trip, you will also visit different national parks for nature and landscape views. Starting from the shores of lake victoria at Mabamba bay to the Murchison falls at the Nile river across the woodlands of lake Mburo national park and an escape to Kibale, the primate capital of the world.
The 15 day Uganda birding and wildlife tour starts from Mabamba at the shores of Lake Victoria. Mabamba is an Important Bird Area that is gifted with over 260 bird species, that include both migratory and resident birds. From Mabamba, you will be transferred to Lake Mburo National Park for another birding and wildlife escapade.
Lake Mburo is small but with varied habitats for its size. These range from acacia woodland, dry hillsides, rocky outcrops, bushy thickets, open and wooded savannah, seasonal and permanent swamps. All these habitats and ecosystems host a phenomenal number of wildlife and birds (over 315 species of birds.) The small park is famous for its many zebras, impalas and the world's largest antelope species: the eland, which are not found in any other park in Uganda.
From Mburo, you will be transferred Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the land of the mountain gorillas. Bwindi is majorly known for the mountain gorillas, however, it is also a bird watchers’ haven with an estimate of 347 species of birds. The forests also host over 459 mountain gorillas and are surrounded by a native tribe called the Batwa. These form a combination of cultural and wildlife experiences that wow you with world class experience.
Proceeding to Queen Elizabeth National park, you will have experiences within both sectors of the park. Queen Elizabeth National park is well known for “the Big four” i.e. the elephants, buffaloes, lions and leopards and is gifted with over 600 species of birds and a variety of wildlife. You will explore the kasenyi plains and have boat cruises on the Kazinga channel. You will also have scenic views of the tree climbing lions in Ishasha. From Queen, you will visit Kibale National Park.
Kibale’s beautiful ecosystems are felt by an estimated 340 bird species. 77% of Kibale is covered by forests and the rest is summed up into swamps and grasslands. This makes Kibale both diverse and spectacular. Some of the common bird species include the green breasted pitta, the African Pitta and the Grey-winged Robin among others. Kibale is also gifted with over 1500 chimpanzees and 13 primate species. The safari ends in Murchison falls national park, which is Uganda's largest park hosting over 87 mammals and over 451 bird species. The park gets its name from the spectacular Murchison Falls located on the Nile. At the falls, there's a spectacular view of the Nile squeezing through a tiny chasm of about 7 meters between rocks exploding into the pool 42 meters below.
At the end of your 15 day Uganda birding and wildlife safari, you will have garnered your experiences, and of course your memories.
